Pas open to disgruntled Umno members: Nik Aziz (NST, 10/4/2008)
On the controversy over the RM100 million modern pig farming project in Selangor, Nik Aziz felt the issue should not be blown out of proportion as Islam allows non-Muslims to continue to eat pork and consume alcohol.

"In Kelantan, we allow shops selling pork and alcohol as long as the business did not disturb others. If Selangor wants to approve the project, that is their right,” he said.

Khalid: Previous government okayed pig project on Jan 30 (The Star, 10/4/2008)
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has reiterated that it was the previous state government that approved the centralised pig farming project in Ladang Tumbuk, Mukim Batu in Kuala Langat.

He said records showed that approval was given to acquire 136.4ha for the project under Section 3 (1) (a) of the Land Acquisition Act.

The decision was made at an executive council meeting on Jan 30 where it was also decided that the cost of the acquisition would be borne by a private company and the proceeds channelled to the Selangor state Economic Planning Unit.

Earlier, former mentri besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo told a press conference that the previous state government decided on a smaller project.

“We did not discuss a project costing as much as RM100mil and the state government had also agreed not to come out with any allocation for it,” he said.

Dr Khir said the modern pig farming project proposal was a small scheme implemented to cover demand for pork in Selangor only (136.4ha is indeed very small Dr Khir! - bakaq a.k.a. ~penarik beca)
Selangor may consider buying water from Perak (The Star, 9/4/2008)
Meanwhile, Khalid said, all pig farmers in the state would have to relocate to a centralised farm in Kuala Langat within a year's time.

“We have talked to the farmers concerned and most of them have agreed to the modern farming centre in Ladang Tumbuk, which fulfils the high quality guidelines approved by the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry.

The project was approved by the previous state government on Jan 30, and Khalid said the new government decided to proceed with it as it was necessary.

He said the farmers would be given compensation in terms of incentives and business opportunities for moving into the one-stop centre.

The land and premises left by the farmers would be utilised for other business purposes.

Former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Khir Toyo, however, denied that the former exco had on the approved the project during the exco meeting on Jan 30.

27 Ogos 2007, Utusan Malaysia menyiarkan pesanan "Jangan politikkan isu babi di Melaka". Rupa-rupanya "Masalah ternakan babi di Melaka selesai" kerana Timbalan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak telah berbincang dengan Ketua Menteri Melaka, Datuk Seri Mohd. Ali Rustam. Maklumlah, "Tempoh kurangkan babi dilanjutkan 4 Oktober".
